Bart and Cherry Starr Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Fund at Children’s of Alabama

Children’s of Alabama is home to a word-class pediatric cancer center that is ranked by U.S. News and World Report among the best programs for pediatric cancer. 

Each year, Children’s of Alabama treats more than 2,000 children with cancer and serious blood disorders from across the state of Alabama and beyond. Today, blood and marrow transplants provide cures for many types of cancers and blood disorders, including:

  • Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia

  • Acute Myelogenous Leukemia

  • Aplastic Anemia

  • Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes
    (including Fanconi Anemia)

  • Brain Tumors

  • Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia

  • Congenital Immune Deficiencies

  • Juvenile Myelomyonocytic Leukemia

  • Lymphoma

  • Metabolic Storage Disorders

  • Neuroblastoma

  • Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemia

  • Soft Tissue Sarcomas

To ensure that they're always at the forefront of medical research, the Children’s of Alabama offers a three-year Hematology/Oncology fellowship program where physicians participate in stem cell transplants, inpatient clinics, outpatient clinics, and scholarly research.

The Bart and Cherry Starr Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Fund was established to fund an annual salary for a fellow at Children's of Alabama who will undergo specialized training for one more year in the field of blood and marrow transplant (BMT).
